Description:
For Sale is my beloved Mazda MX-5. I wanted one of these for years and finally bought one last year and I've absolutely loved it, but I'm now in need of a more practical car so this has to go to help fund it.
Firstly - it is an import, the Eunos Roadster - BUT these were actually more powerful than the UK version, the UK 1.6 Mk1 had 85bhp, the import has 115! and that makes a lot of difference!
The Good
The car drives fantastically, handles like a dream, very sharp, plenty of power and is solid underneath, there is no rot on the chassis. I took it for MOT in May and it needed 2 light bulbs - that's it - there is an advisory for the rear tyre as the shoulder has rubbed a bit, but still legal. If you don't know about Mazdas - they have double wishbone suspension front & rear, same as F1 cars, this means the handling is superb and can take any amount of throwing around, they also have 50/50 weight distribution, this mean that when the back end lets go (which it easily does in the wet) it gives a gradual slide and doesn't snap round like some rear drive cars, this makes it an absolute hoot to drive - drifters and track day afficianados love them. The clock is showing just under 163,000 - BUT this is in Kilometres (the speedo reads in mph) so this is just over 100,000 miles
The Bad
There is a VERY slow puncture on the N/S front tyre - it needs to be topped up about every two to three weeks, but if being driven regularly it's not bad at all. The heated rear window doesn't work, all the wiring is there and 12 volts but I think it needs a relay in the system to get it working, this is because it has a later Mk2 roof, with the glass rear screen instead of the plastic. ~The roof has two small patches on the corner as shown in the pictures and the side seams are cracked, this does let in a little water in heavy rain, the rain sits in the rubber seal then comes out when you move the car. I do clean the rain channels out regularly to keep them clear and this solves most of the problems. I removed the rear carpet to let it dry out and the wool sound proofing, the carpet is back in but not correctly fitted, I do have all the clips and it will just pop back into place, I haven't got the soundproofing in so the car is a little noisier than it would be, if I can find it I'll put it back in.
The Ugly
The car is showing it's age, the paintwork could do with some TLC, not bad from a distance but lots of surface scratches and a little hazing in places, the seats are a bit tatty, cracked and the drivers bolster is worn as seen in the pics, but hey when your sat in it driving you can't see the seats - right!
As you can see, the bad points are very minor, the ugly points could do with some attention to make it a show stopper - but if your after a cheap 2 seater convertible that will put a smile on your face every time you drive it - Here it is - Make the most of the rest of the summer..!! MOT to May 2015, Tax till end Aug 2014 - Drive away bargain!
